Why do I feel like a Yo-Yo.

A lot of people I talk to tell me they can't understand why they don't lose any weight, even though they have decreased their caloric intake in major ways. They ask me why they aren't losing as fast as they thought they would and then when they rev their calories back to a normal level the pounds pack back on quickly, thus the term Yo-Yo diets.

This diagram explains this phenomenon very well. When you drastically cut your calories, the body goes into a famine response and begins burning muscle. As we lose muscle, our metabolism slows, so that as soon as we start to eat some calories the body begins packing it back on. (I know this from experience as well as the research that tells me so.)

So, now you know how the cycle works and you can begin to break that cycle and reach for the finish line!

Resveratrol -- pills to replace a healthy diet?

This review provides evidence for the multi-faceted properties of resveratrol and suggests that resveratrol may target ageing and obesity related chronic disease by regulating inflammation and oxidative stress. But the lack of clinical research to date and effects of long-term dosing need to be further addressed if resveratrol is to b...ecome a multi target agent for addressing chronic disease.

Business of the 21st Century

"Network marketing teaches basic, critical life skills. It teaches people how to overcome their fears, how to communicate, and how to handle rejection and maintain persistence. This kind of education is absolutely priceless.
Here's what I tell people: 'Even if you don't like it, stay with it for five years and you'll be better equipped to survive in the real world of business. And you'll be a better person.'
The people who are successful in network marketing have a spiritual cause. They genuinely want to help better others' lives. If you don't have that, if you just want a paycheck, then work for the post office!" (Mar. 05) ~Robert Kiyosaki

Weight and the Work Place

Having been 50+ pounds heavier and in the workforce, this is an issue that touched my soul. As more and more Americans are doing without insurance, having to pay for their own insurance, or finding that their company plans are diminishing or disappearing altogether just to keep the company doors open. I began to wonder what the impact actually is.

The Surgeon General reports that more than 9 percent of the nation's health care expenditures are directly related to obesity and physical inactivity. They calculate that to cost out at about $117 billion annually and relate to 300,000 deaths per year.

To put this into context 4,287 have died in the Iraq war in a SIX year period yet we read the statistics every day. The death of 300,000 Americans (1,800,000 in six years) goes largely unreported.

Health risks associated with obesity include: hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, endocrine problems, gall bladder disease, lung and breathing problems, arthritis, and premature death.

We can ignore the actual health risks and just look at employment.

The most prevalent type of obesity discrimination in the world is employment discrimination. According to the American Obesity Association, the vast majority of employers will single out an overweight job applicant and label them as impaired emotionally or inept in social situations - even when the applicant is just as well qualified for a job as all the other candidates. In fact, when employers were asked to rate potential employees, obese people are consistently ranked lower than even former felons and people with mental problems. A study released by the American Obesity Association said that obesity will play a greater role in securing a job than many other factors, including age, sex, and race.

These are some of the reasons I feel so lucky to have my company and the opportunity to offer assistance. I specialize in working with people who see weight loss and weight management as a key to overall health, especially those who would like to lose 10-100 pounds. I work with people who would like to take it off and KEEP it off healthfully, just as I did.

If you are ready to make a change and to leave these statistics behind, contact me. We can discuss your needs, wants and commitment and if you are ready, get you started on a healthful plan.

Believe it is time for a walk in the sunshine... 2 miles or 6? hmmmmmm

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Welcome!

Welcome to the Skinny Grease Monkey a home for all of us that want to be skinny monkies!!!

I had personally gotten to 201 pounds, in a former life, and decided I didn't want to be there! I began walking 6 miles a day and eating healthier. I made many lifestyle changes at that time and lost about 40 pounds. Then the yo-yo began I would gain a few and lose a few and gain a few while never dropping down below that 160 pound mark.

In 2006 a miracle happened. I got pregnant. In December of that year I reached that 201 point again and was devastated. I had a beautiful baby girl in March, but she didn't weigh 41 pounds, as many women have learned. :-) A friend suggested I try a product to give me the nourishment & energy as I began life as a new mom.

The energy levels skyrocketed so I added the whole line of products. I dropped 50+ pounds in 5 months! I've been at 150 pounds for over three and a half years. No more Yo-Yo.

I want this blog to be a resource for others who have been on the weight roller coaster. I will share information and resources to assist others in attaining their own goals and desired energy levels and restored health through diet, lifestyle choice, and other support.
